Candle Care

Nothing is more satisfying than the first burn of a candle you're enjoying for the first time. Keep the following in mind to protect your investment and to ensure you get the best and longest life out of your candle.

Before each burn, trim your wooden wick to about 1/8” or remove most of the scorched portion of the wick. Wick trimmers are designed to cleanly cut and remove excess wick. Wick trimming promotes an even burn, proper scent throw, and prolongs the life of your candle. It also promotes a steady & moderate flame, while limiting smoking, soot, and vessel overheating.

Keep your wax pool free of wick trimmings and other dust & debris.

The first burn is the most important burn. When lighting your candle for the first time, allow the wax to melt across the entire top layer, to the edges of the vessel - a full melt pool. Our medium sized candles take ~ 4 hours. Our travel sized candles take ~ 1 hour.

This prevents tunneling (wax memory pool) and an uneven burn as well as maximizes your candle’s scent throw or dispersement of fragrance.

Extinguish your candle if it smokes, produces soot, or the flame becomes too high. These signs indicate the wooden wick may not have been trimmed enough and could result in an improperly burning candle and an uncontrolled flame. Allow the candle to cool, wipe the soot with a clean, damp cloth, trim the wick, and check for drafts before re-lighting.

You should not experience smoking or soot with our properly trimmed candle.

Don’t blow out your candle - use a candle snuffer. This will prevent wick debris from falling into the wax and minimize smoke overpowering your fragrance.

Always burn your candle within sight and away from any drafts.

Do not burn your candle all the way down.  Leave about 1/4 inch of unmelted wax to prevent vessel overheating/shattering.

To prolong the fragrance within your candle, do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Extinguish the candle and allow it to cool and harden before trimming the wick and re-lighting.

Cover your candle when cooled and not in use. This keeps dust & debris from settling into the wax or wick and helps keep the scent strong instead of diffusing into air over time. If it doesn’t have a lid, store it under a glass cloche. Store your candle in a cool and dry place, avoiding direct exposure to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting.
